Taos Fly Classes
Beginners Fly Fishing School
May 5th-7th, 2017

If you want to really learn to fly fish this is the ticket. On our regular guide trip the primary goal is catching fish--but some aspects of fly fishing need undivided attention-- away from the distraction of actually fishing. Although you’ll study gear, knots and flies this is primarily an outdoor school and “how to fly fish” classes are held on the water. (With casting lessons on grass.) Taylor will give demonstrations from his book Instinctive Fly Fishing II and then he and his guides will guide you onto your first trout on the fly. First day. Class introduction, meet instructors, pass out copies of Instinctive Fly Fishing II (book included in class). Gear explanation with Nick Streit. Slide show on fly fishing in NM from Taylor’s book Fly Fishing New Mexico. Casting on grass. Instruction on knots, flies, leaders, tippet, etc. After lunch we will move streamside and 'on to the water'. Second day. •Roll casting •Fishing demos from “Instinctive” •Landing fish •Wading safely •Guided Fishing Third day. •On water instruction will include: •Casting and fishing on lake and stream •Lunch on the River •Entomology •How to get a good drift •Finding fish and putting the sneak on em’ •Setting the hook •Guided fishing rate for school is $595 plus tax.
