05/13/2010 - Guides School
Guides School –Streit Fly Fishing-May 13-16, 2010 Due to a need for fly fishing guides throughout the Rocky Mountains, Taylor Streit and Taos Fly Shop started a guide’s school in 2008. Taylor is a logical choice to conduct this school as he was elected as a “legendary guide” in 2001 into the Freshwater Fishing Hall Of Fame and has guided for over thirty years. His three books are Instinctive Fly Fishing , Fly Fishing New Mexico and Man vs Fish—The Fly Fisherman’s Eternal Struggle. Instinctive Fly Fishing will be our text book. It was written from a guides perspective and is unlike any other fly fishing book because it gets down to the real reasons why people do—or don’t—catch fish. The school will run 3 ½ days and include: Casting lessons/teaching casting--with Nick and Taylor Streit Evaluating conditions/where to fish and when The fly fishing personalities—guiding kids, woman, beginners and experts Taking charge and keeping clients in good water Hatches, fly choices Knots and rigging Pond guiding Landing and releasing fish Wading Exploring And last but not least—crafting the “fishing excuse” CPR & FIRST AID COURSE AVAILABLE GUIDES CHARM SCHOOL: Making lunch, clock reading, gassing up (the car that is—not the guide). Getting big tips! The real emphasis of this class will be on the water; and from Taylor’s wealth of experience you will learn to deal with the incredible number of variations that occur in nature—in both human nature and Mother Nature. If you are not a great fly fisher—as of yet—don’t be intimidated as much of fly fishing guiding is about teaching beginners, and does not necessarily require advanced skills. If you have a willingness to learn, are responsible and can make sensible decisions that is a big part of the job. The total cost is $595 (plus tax) that includes a copy of Instinctive Fly Fishing and 3 lunches. If you just want to take this course and have no plans of guiding you are welcome and you will acquire a much deeper understanding of the sport. (But please keep in mind, although students will get to fish, this school is not about attendees fishing.) 01/19/2006 - UNM courses begin
Fly tying, Intro to fly fishing and advanced fly fishing are all set to go. There is still a couple spot open, call the shop or UNM Taos to sign up.

02/10/2006 - Bob Gerding's outdoor show
Taos Fly Shop will again have a both at the show in Albuquerque. The show is on the 10,11, and 12th of Feb. Please come stop by and say hello, the show is always alot of fun.

03/25/2006 - Cloudveil launch party
The Cloudveil reps will be here Saturday, the 25th, talking about the latest and greatest gear in fly fishing. We will be giving away free merchandise to people who by Cloudveil items as well as showcasing Cloudveil stuff that will be out this spring. There will be free casting lessons behind the shop, as well as a slide show presantation of fly fishing in patagonia.

04/28/2006 - Fly tying/fishing school with A.K. Best and Taylor Streit
Below is a schedule for next years class, call for reservations. Friday, April 28th 5:30 pm with Welcome gathering. Meet our instructors, take a look at their books, and get to know the group. 6:30 pm Dinner with casting demos from Taylor�s book Instinctive Fly Fishing. 7:30 pm slides of NM and Argentina. Saturday, April 29th 8:00 am Breakfast at hotel. 9:00 am to 12:00 pm A.K. Best fly tying workshop. All materials needed for the workshop will be provided. Bring your own tools and lamps. Other materials available for purchase on site from Taos Fly Shop. 12:00 to 1:00 Lunch with Taylor�s hints on skating the Caddis. 1:00 pm to dusk Fishing with Taylor and his guides (2-3 clients per guide). . On Return Dinner accompanied by Fish Stories� Sunday, April 30th 8:00 am Breakfast at the Lodge with presentation. 9:00 am to 12 A.K.�s Second fly tying session. 12:00 to 1:00 Lunch including fishing demo. 1:30 to dusk guided fishing.

04/30/2006 - New License Year!
Make sure to get your New Mexico licenses for 2006. The new license year starts April 1st.

05/24/2006 - Taos Fly Shop Anniversary Party!

07/01/2006 - Valle Vidal opens!
The Valle Vidal should provide us with some excellent fishing this summer.

01/01/2007 - Argentina 07
We are already getting booked up for our Argentina 07 season. The fishing should, as always be incredible this year, and we have added some new "secret spots" to our repitore of fishing down there.

04/20/2007 - 3rd annual Caddis Hatch Fly tying/Fly Fish School with Ed Engle
This years school will feature famous fly fishing guide and author, Ed Engle. Besides writing for many fly fishing magazines Ed has several books including "Tying Small Flies" and "Fishing Small Flies". The school begins the evening of the 20th followed by a healthy portion of tying and fishing on the 21st and 22nd. Please call or email for more details.

08/25/2007 - Shop Party and end of summer sale!!!
We are having a party to showcase our new location, right next door to the old shop at 308- C paseo del pueblo sur. We have over 4 times the space of the old shop and lots of new stuff. We are also very excited to now be dealers of Simms fly fishing products. A represantitive from Simms will be on hand saturday the 25th answering any questions and telling plenty of "fish stories" too. We will be doing fly tying demos, casting demos and a casting competition for a fly rod! We will be having HUGE sales as well as door prizes. Taylor will be around signing books and Nick will be giving free casting lesons in the back. See you there!
