2024 Instinctive Fly Fishing Class Price: $595.00 Per Person
This school is for intermediate to advanced fly fishers and based on Taylor’s Instinctive Fly Fishing II (included).
The Taos Fly Shop Instinctive School is designed for intermediate to advanced fly fishers. The curriculum is based on Taylor Streit’s Instinctive Fly Fishing II. A copy of the book is provided free of charge to all students enrolled in the class.
The school runs for two and a half days, beginning at 1pm at the Taos Fly Shop on Friday, and concludes the evening of Sunday. The majority of the class is held “on the water” with half of the weekend being devoted to guided fishing with 2-3 students per guide. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday are provided free of charge for all students enrolled in the class.

-Casts for different situations: reach cast, mend cast, curve cast etc…

-Hatches: when and where to fish them

Day 1
1:00pm Meet at Taos Fly Shop. Introductions
1:15pm- 2:30 pm. Discussion

*Stream flows
*Water temps and weather
*Where to fish and why
*Flies
*Rods- are you using the right one?
3:00pm-4:30 pm. Casting
Types of casts will include:
*Loops- wide, tight and tailing
*Backhand casts
*Tip cast
*Oval cast
Day 2
9:00am Meet at Taos Fly Shop
9:15am – Depart for Rio Grande (conditions depending)
10:00am- 11:30am On the water demonstrations
Skills demonstrated will include:
*Drift- High Sticking, Mending
*Hook setting
*Reading water
11:30am - Noon Discussion, Q and A
Noon – 1:00pm Lunch, (provided)
1:00pm- 5:00pm Guided Instruction
Day 3
9:00 am Meet at Taos Fly Shop
9:15am Depart for the Costilla or the Los Pinos (conditions depending)
11:00am - Noon On the water demonstrations

*Curve cast, reach mend
